The Mediterranean diet is a dietary pattern and associated lifestyle that adopts mainly plant foods. (MD) has been acknowledged by the United Nations Educational, Scientific Cultural Organization (UNESCO) as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity since 2013, candidacy involving seven countries in area, including Portugal, aiming to safeguard MD its multiple dimensions. corresponding food system recognized healthy sustainable Food Agriculture (FAO) World Health (WHO), inspiring guidelines around world. current entry examines sustainability resilience pattern, using Portuguese case study examine feasibility prospective composite indicators assessing diets systems. Information extracted from reports official statistics was used assess set proposed metrics. Although information fulfil most metrics found, some data gaps were identified, highlighting need improve existing work highlights role science policy transforming four key areas human–nature interaction: use natural resources, systems, production consumption, cities’ sustainability. Since consumption (SGD 12) UN’s 2030 agenda, it important analyze what extent dissemination among population can be way achieve this goal.
